Avril Lavigne - From Punk Rock To Bubblegum Pop

A renaissance woman in her own way, Avril Lavigne has defined what a true blue music maker is. A singer, lyricist, and musician, she is definitely one of the hottest and biggest celebrities every young fan adores. And now, from the punk princess we've always known, she has somewhat embarked herself in a new style of music with her recent album, The Best Damn Thing. Yes, she's no longer that hardcore, guitar-strumming chick with a tough attitude. Move over Sk8er Boi, here comes Girlfriend!

Born on September 27, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario, Avril's talent was honed at an early age, two to be exact, when her mother noticed her singing along with their church choir. In 1998, she won a competition and sang with fellow Canadian singer Shania Twain. Having performed in several shows, she was invited to sing in front of one of the biggest American record executives and most influential men in the music business, Antonio "L.A." Reid, at the age of sixteen. After that, she was immediately signed and began working on her debut album.

Let Go was a phenomenal success (with hit songs Complicated, Sk8er Boi, I'm With You, and Losing Grip), making her an instant celebrity. Avril was put in line along with the top, young calibers of the music industry such as the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Let Go became the best selling album of the year for a female artist and for a debut album in 2002. And up to date, it has sold over 16 million copies worldwide.

In 2004, her sophomore album, Under My Skin, materialized. It debuted at number one in the U.S. and in other parts of the globe. Really, endearing fans can't seem to get enough with this skateboarding celebrity punk princess.

Avril's recent offering, The Best Damn Thing, topped the charts in April 2007. And with her first single, Girlfriend, fans saw the transformation of this punk lady to a move-busting pop princess. Yes, she's not only strumming that guitar and rocking with her band - she also dances now! Her tough image has somewhat shifted to a girlie, teeny-bopper one, thanks to the bubblegum pop kind of music she showcases in her new album.

Many people attributed the changes in Avril's music and personality with her marriage to Deryck Whibley, the lead vocalist of the Canadian band, Sum 41. But despite the new look and attitude, Avril still remains at the top of the list. This goes to show that fans like what they're seeing and hearing. She's a great example of how an artist can manage to reinvent herself without losing her fans' support and adulation.

I am just a fan who wants to know and write things about celebrities. So come with me and let's take a glimpse at the limelight scene.
